Visual plagiarism is the act of using other people's creations and passing them off as your own. The Hope Poster is a famous example.
How do you avoid visual plagiarism?
- Sometimes, you want to draw your favorite characters. Do that on your own time. In the classroom, work on developing your own characters and skills.
- If you use an image for inspiration, you must transform it significantly to make it your own.
- Document your work and your process as evidence and encourage your friends to do the same.
- Copying others is a long standing tool in learning to create art. Know that there is a place for copying, and that place is NOT in your portfolio!
