We are going to be sharing some useful resources by department. Think of this as tools of the trade.

Fashion majors often find themselves hunting for images of fashion history, or images for inspiration.  When you are creating a mood board, where do you go for information?

The biggest error is heading over to Pinterest. You might find some great images, but getting back to the original source can be impossible. When you are citing your sources, you really want to get to the original source. Citing Pinterest does not credit the creator.  So what do you do?

Head over to your RMCAD Portal and search in Artstor! Artstor is an amazing resource for fashion images. And the best part is that you can download the image AND get the citation right there.

What about find resources about the fashion industry?  If you select the EBSCOhost Main Page, you can choose Business Source Premier.  There you can find industry reports, company SWOT analyses and more.

How about information on fashion history for that humanities paper you are writing? Check out both the Bloomsbury Applied Visual Arts collection and JSTOR. Both of them supply rich resources and that wonderful CITE button.

Films on Demand, also available through the portal, has many documentaries about designers and the fashion industry.

Outside of the portal, check out the Victoria and Albert Collection and this Fashion Study Collection at Columbia College in Chicago. Many museums have their collections online and are worth hunting down.

The big takeaway here is to not limit yourself to one source of information. Contact the library@rmcad.edu for more help!

Hello everyone! I wanted to take the time now and reach out to the students no matter where you are from your freshman year to your senior year. Have you noticed a change within yourself and with your art from where you first started your college journey? I include freshman year because some people learn fast and can develop changes at the beginning quickly but if you haven’t don’t feel bad!

If you have noticed change in your art, within yourself, or both, are you proud of where you are now? Do you feel you can do better?? No matter where you are now you should be proud of how far you’ve come despite the circus fest we call 2020. If you are still making progress for yourself, living life, and being safe you deserve a nice cupcake for yourself.

Now I know what I am saying might come off as a broken record but in times like these for those who deal with ADHD, ADD, and so on tend to forget about their successes and dwell on their failures along with whats going on now. They forget how far they’ve come as a person. I at times get really hard on myself, I deal with ADD so I am constantly at war with my perfectionism to the point it starts to make my health decline. I also have high productive anxiety so I fight with myself constantly, forgetting how far I’ve come as a whole but when I do remind myself I feel better about myself as a whole and my situation feels better knowing I can do it.

Please remember time’s are really hard right now and you are allowed to be easier with yourself. If you are unable to absolutely work due to the circumstances of your life please speak up. Talk to your teacher or your therapist so they can work with you! Teachers love it when you talk to them, you don’t have to say anything really personal but it just shows them you care and they are able to work with you so you can still be the best student you can be! Take time out of your day if you can to just really do things you like and recharge yourself. Giving yourself some time to breathe because if it's constantly work, work, school, school, you’re going to crash eventually.

So please be kind with yourself during these hard times. I am sure anyone can understand your situation and regardless if they do or don’t you have to treat your brain with some kindness and respect. If you have a hard time doing that you should bring it up with your therapist so they can help you reflect and guide you on your success.

Happy Monday! I hope everyone's week is off to a great start. The Student Learning Center (SLC) just released a series of videos featuring some of our student tutors. If you want to learn more about them and the topics they can help you with, check out their welcome videos below! You can also access these tutor videos via the SLC Google Drive here with your RMCAD email address.

With midterms only a couple of weeks away, the SLC is a great (free!) resource if you want some extra help with your assignments. To schedule an online appointment with a tutor, you can email learning@rmcad.edu with some times you're available or you can self-schedule here. For more information on the SLC and the topics we can help you with, please visit our Libguides website
