First, let me start off by saying what a rabbit hole this month's magazine blog has been. I started out with an idea to write about branding; typography, sketching, client dialog, color theory… but when I picked up issue 10 of Graphite Magazine and started researching it’s content and history I found, what I think, is a much needed reminder of the ebb and flow of publication.

Annual 4 issues- 2016

Annual 4 issues- 2017

The magazine was published by 3dtotal Publishing in Worcester, United Kingdom. It was a quarterly magazine that got printed once a year and sold as a set of 4. From what I could find it seems they constructed the first two years as such, then must have sold the last two issues separately, issue 10 April 2018 was the last printed. They are no longer in print however, you can find most on Amazon from anywhere between $10-$988! Although, you know what they say, something is only worth what someone will pay.

Only 2 issues- 2018

You can find several of these issues in the Hugh Thurlow Memorial Library here on the RMCAD campus. Issues 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 here on display and can be viewed during library hours. These beautifully illustrated magazines have a fount of information about inspiring artists, methods and tricks or the trade. While they are mostly geared toward the illustration industry I found so much info that carries over into interior design and graphic design as well as industrial design, cartoon/character design.

You might be familiar with 3dtotal’s next venture Character Design Quarterly. It is going strong and 3dtotal.com has amazing FREE downloadable content!
